13 days with no new cases and deaths in Victoria with just three cases active in the state

Victoria is fast-approaching two weeks with no new coronavirus cases. The state chalked up its 13th consecutive day with no new COVID-19 cases to report, with the number of active cases sitting at just three. To give you some perspective, at the same point in October the state had 131 active cases. Encouragingly, these results were also recorded after over 20,000 Victorians were tested on Wednesday. There were no new deaths to report, keeping the state’s toll at 819. And the 14-day rolling average of new cases was down to 0.1, with just two Victorians in hospital and none in intensive care.

“Extraordinary figure” – Health Minister Martin Foley

Victoria’s Health Minister Martin Foley (pictured above) fronted the press, saying the numbers were strong and encouraging people to continue to come forward for testing.

“This extraordinary figure of over 20,000 shows Victorians want to stay safe and stay open by coming forward in such extraordinary numbers even with the slightest of symptoms. I would urge all Victorians to continue to do so,” Mr Foley said. “I want to thank all of those Victorians who have come forward to be tested because it continues to give us the certainty and the confidence that we know the movements of the virus.”
