Four Australian women have been recognised for their services to aged care on the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours list. Emeritus Professor Colleen Cartwright AM has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to aged care planning, policy and research. Colleen is Emeritus Professor, Office of the Vice Chancellor, Southern Cross University. Her research has focused on medical decisions at the end of life, advance care planning, informed consent and capacity, euthanasia, telehealth for older people, and the needs of people living with dementia and their carers. Vivienne Allanson OAM, CEO of church-based aged care provider Maroba, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the aged care sector.
Vivienne began her career as a registered nurse in 1975 in the public hospital system. In 1991, she made the decision to move to the aged care sector. She joined Maroba in 1994 as Director of Nursing and in 2000 stepped into the role of CEO.
Robyn Ann Batten AM has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the Not For Profit, health and aged care sectors. Robyn is currently the Chair of Western Health, on the Advisory Board for the Institute for Health Transformation with Deakin University, a non-executive director with Eastern Melbourne PHN, Executive Chair of tech start up Leap in!, and Strategic Advisor of Borderless Healthcare Group.
She formerly led aged care provider Blue Care and was a Director of Uniting Vic. Tas.
Robyn originally trained as a social worker and also holds a Masters of Business Administration. Anna Harrison AM has also been made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to aged care and multiculturalism in Western Australia. Anna is the founder and board member of Umbrella Community Care and served as CEO for 22 years. She is highly regarded for her decades of work helping WA’s culturally and linguistically diverse seniors receive the support they need to remain living in their own homes and being independent.
