59% of aged care providers not confident of meeting 215 care minute targets: Mirus Australia

Three in every five aged care providers lack confidence in their ability to meet increased care minute targets, which take effect in two months' time, according to a survey by aged care advisory group Mirus. The survey of 162 aged care providers that registered for a 'Navigating Workforce Challenges in Aged Care' webinar being held on 25 July 2024, found 59% are 'uncertain' or 'disagree' with the statement they are confident in their ability to meet the 215 care minute targets, which come into effect on 1 October 2024.

"The lack of confidence in meeting the 215-minute care requirement points to a need for more support and resources for our aged care providers," Andrew Farmer, CEO of Mirus Australia.

The survey of found 85% agree they are having difficulty finding staff to meet their current care minute targets.

"This highlights the need for innovative recruitment strategies and support mechanisms to attract and retain talent in the aged care sector," Andrew said

Andrew said nearly one quarter of respondent providers, 24%, said they are unsure or disagree with the statement they understand the financial impact of employee health on leave costs and workers' compensation insurance, suggesting their organisation is not aware of the economic impacts of employee wellbeing. "The health and wellbeing of our Aged Care workforce is critical to retain what we have as we strive to bring new capacity into the industry," he said.
