Last Tuesday night’s Lateline brought to the surface the subject many people don’t want to talk about – the administrative cost of home care as revealed under Consumer Directed Care.
The program gave the example of John with early onset dementia and a home care package worth $29,640 of which $14,560 was grabbed in administration fees (49%). Margaret, with an auto immune disorder has a $31,000 package and 44% is consumed in fees, including $6,500 in case management.

A case manager pointed out that they billed $80 an hour for case management compared to $40 for a showering, and queried the relative value.

The TV program highlighted the conflict of high fees and the purported mission of Not For Profits operators.
