Last Monday’s AM radio program featured the comments by the commercial Aged Care Concerns advocacy group that bullying and intimidation of aged care residents is common. They claim to have received 80 complaints about bullying and harassment by staff since May. Director Walter Dale said “it beggars belief what could be going on”.

The examples given of an 87-year-old woman who the daughter claims has been mistreated in her facility over several years. The daughter claims she too had been verbally abused and advised she could take her mother elsewhere. However she feels the extra cost and the move would make it difficult.

“I think it stinks. Especially considering I have got my mum in a bonded extra service facility and I am are not getting what I pay for” she says.
