AN-ACC shadow assessments to start this month

The shift towards a case mix based funding model in residential care – a key recommendation from the Royal Commission’s Final Report – has moved one step closer. The Department of Health has announced the Government has approved the continued development of the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding model as a possible replacement for the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI). Over the next 12 months, all residents in Government-funded aged care homes – except those at end of life – will receive an AN-ACC assessment while current ACFI funding arrangements continue. The shadow assessments will be carried out by trained AN-ACC assessors from six independent Assessment Management Organisations (AMOs) located around Australia which have been contracted by the Government. You can find more information about the AN-ACC model here.
