Growthbuilt has built 30 studio apartments as social housing for over 55s for the Not for Profit on the former Steelworks Hotel site in the Wollongong suburb, 94km south of Sydney's CBD.

The $10 million development has been jointly funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice’s Community Housing Innovation Fund and Anglicare Sydney

“Older Australians, and women in particular, are at higher risk of homelessness, and projects like these are a lifeline to those in need, particularly at a time of significant cost-of-living pressure and worsening housing affordability,” Anglicare Sydney CEO, Simon Miller, said.

“Projects like this offer a beacon of hope for many, and we want to do more.

“We thank the NSW Government for their partnership in this project and encourage both State and Federal Government to increase their commitment to social and affordable housing projects to help more older Australians at risk of homelessness."
