The boutique retirement village of 40 luxury retirement apartments was a renewal of the ageing Gowrie Village, in Sydney’s leafy Upper North Shore, 14km northwest of Sydney’s CBD.

AJC Architects designed Gordon Quarter to complement the estate’s heritage-listed building Burnham Thorpe, with its grand staircase, billiard room, library, sunroom and sweeping terrace, which overlooks a resort-style pool. Roden Cutler Lodge, a residential aged care home, is inside the village.

Built by Taylor Construction, Gordon Quarter opened in December 2022. It won the UDIA NSW Award for Excellence in Retirement Living at the event on Saturday night. Other nominations were: Akoya Greenwich by Alceon; Cedar on Collins by Fresh Hope Communities; Gordon McRae-McMahon Place by Uniting; and Monterey, Stage 1 by Allam Lifestyle Communities.
