Folklore says retirement villages are 'safe havens' because they are 'gated estates' where any suspicious character is immediately identified and challenged. Scanning the media each week however it is becoming apparent that villages are increasingly subject to theft and with it assault.
Operators and residents need to review security plans.
As an example this week a 93 year old village resident in Dubbo (NSW) had a credit card stolen during the night. The magistrate described the theft as “contemptible and disgusting” when sentencing the 24 year old man who received the stolen card from another man to buy drugs.
