The challenges of meeting aged care standards, particularly in regional areas. Families in the Victorian city have taken their concerns about a lack of GP’s in the area to the local paper, complaining their elderly family members have not seen a doctor in weeks. Bendigo Health, which runs five aged care facilities in the region, said there was a limited number of GPs who were available to residents, and they are working with families.
“In residential care, it is a requirement for residents to be able to have a choice of GP,” their spokesperson said.
“Bendigo Health does try to assist residents and families to find GPs although we face the same challenges they do.”
