Catalina Lake Macquarie in NSW expands with supported independent living villas

Since opening its doors in 2019, Catalina Lake Macquarie in Cooranbong, 118km north of Sydney, has grown into a thriving retirement community with 217 residents.

Operated by Yarrum Living and the winner of the HIA Hunter Region Specialised Housing AwardCatalina Lake Macquarie now has 135 independent living units and a community centre featuring a 60-seat cinema, indoor heated pool, eight-rink bowling green, men’s shed, and a café.

Next month, Catalina will take another step forward with the arrival of its first residents in the newly launched supported independent living villas. Stage 5 of the development introduces 62 single-level, two-bedroom villas designed with the village’s hallmark standards of accessibility, comfort, and style. The new homes also provide easy access to the forthcoming community hub, due to open in April 2026.

The expansion highlights Catalina’s focus on adapting to residents’ changing needs, supported by a partnership with BaptistCare to deliver tailored in-home support services, enhanced home inclusions, and maintenance.

“Catalina’s success is the culmination of detailed planning by the village operator, a great regional location with easy access to Sydney and Newcastle, and a strong focus on community development,” says General Manager Tracey Palser. “Our residents are proud to call themselves Catalonians and continue to be our strongest advocates.”
