The Morrison Government says that it will provide the funding for a new Aged Care Workforce Research Centre to examine new ways to deliver care for older Australians – as well as “world’s best practice” training and education for care providers – if it is re-elected on 18 May. A further $10 million will also be spent to develop a “Seniors Connected Program” to address residents’ experiences of loneliness in aged care homes. Mr Morrison’s announcement came shortly after Labor leader Bill Shorten confirmed his party would not extend its $10 billion pitch to fund childcare pay increases to aged care workers. In the pre-election announcement of the $34 million funding, Mr Morrison also said that a re-elected Liberal Government would prioritise the growth area of aged care with the goal of reaching 475,000 aged care workers in Australia by 2025.
