The retirement village sector is making a third attempt in eight years to establish a credible accreditation scheme.
The Retirement Villages Association had an ‘in-house’ accreditation program up to 2010.
Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) and the Property Council tried to join forces in 2010/11 but couldn’t agree.
In 2012/13, the Property Council's Retirement Living Council (RLC) launched the Lifemark scheme. LASA launched its IRCAS program at the same time.
Now they are abandoning both and joining forces again in a backdrop of media and government scrutiny.
The joint Management Committee which will oversee the RLC and LASA initiative includes:
- Nicholas Playoust, AEH Retirement Living (Chair)
- Beth Littler, Churches of Christ Queensland (Deputy Chair)
- Alison Quinn, RetireAustralia
- Kim Teudt, Blue Care
- Nick Loudon, Seasons Aged Care
- Paul Murphy, LASA
The Committee will focus on a range of issues including the revision and creation of new accreditation standards; selection of audit partners; development of the scheme’s operating model to be affordable and accessible); and its brand and marketing.
The group will also supervise the development of the Code of Conduct, with a consultation draft expected to be released within the next few weeks.
