The City of Karratha in the state’s Pilbera region, 1575km north of Perth, conducted an analysis of the current and future needs of its senior population with respect to aged care, housing, and infrastructure.
At the latest Council meeting last month, councilors voted to support the State Government to investigate options for retirement living in the City of Karratha.
“We want Karratha to be Australia’s most livable region and this strategy will allow us to improve services and meet the needs of senior citizens so they can retire here,” City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said.
The council endorsed the Age Friendly Strategy 2024-2026 Implementation Plan and Monitoring Framework which includes scheduling fitness programming for senior residents, establishing a seniors community reference group and implementing a seniors parking scheme to improve access to city facilities.
