The outbreak at Anglicare’s Newmarch House aged care home in Kingswood in Western Sydney has seen the numbers in residential care take a dramatic climb this week, but home care is also proving to be a growing concern.
Check out the latest data from the Department of Health above.
As you can see, the number of cases in residential care has jumped from 27 last week to 53 this week.
Two more residents have also passed away at Newmarch House, bringing the total number of deaths in residential care to 11 – or just under 16% of the total deaths in Australia.
In home care, the number of positive cases has also grown from 18 last week to 25 with no new deaths recorded.
Despite the rising number of cases however, Australia is still proving to be containing the virus than other countries – in the United States, COVID-19 has now been linked to over 7,000 nursing home deaths.
