The average daily spend on food has dropped from $6.39 to $6.08 per resident according to a new paper based on the 56% of facilities that provided their catering costs, Australian Ageing Agenda reports. The analysis – which looked at data collected on 817 aged care facilities by StewartBrown from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2016 – found that the average daily spend per resident on catering costs – including food, ingredients, supplements and meal replacements – grew from $7.52 to $8. That’s just a 6% increase. But during the same period, there was a 128% ($0.50) increase in supplements and food replacements. Is there a connection?
