Department of Health and Aged Care surveys Home Care Package providers and employees

The Federal Department of Health and Aged Care has created a survey for Home Care Package (HCP) providers and employees as it seeks to enforce the new Labor Government’s commitment to cap HCP administration and management charges. Aged Care Minister Anika Wells last week introduced the Aged Care Amendment (Implementing Care Reform) Bill 2022, which would allow the Government to cap administration fees on Home Care Packages, and require aged care providers to publish spending figures on food, administration, nursing and profits. It also would mandate Registered Nurses be on-site at aged care homes on a 24/7 basis from July next year. Under the current Home Care Package program, administration and management costs are taken from HCP costs. Some are charged separately (care and package management), while some are built into service charges.

“We want to hear from HCP providers and employees, particularly financial officers, care managers and package managers, to better understand their services and prices,” the “aged care alert” statement says. “Your input is important and will help us to find ways to cap prices while supporting providers and their businesses. “We have developed a survey that should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.”
