Electricity bill relief for Victorians in retirement villages

Victorians living in areas with embedded networks like retirement villages will soon be able to take advantage of a price cap introduced by the State Government in 2019.

The Victorian Default Offer (VDO) comes into effect on 1 September, and will cap the maximum price for energy retailers servicing retirement villages, apartments and caravan parks.

The VDO is expected to positively impact more than 120,000 customers around the state.

The measure comes as part of an independent review from government and industry regulators which found Victorians were paying too much for power.

Victorian Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio, said: “These customers will now have access to the same cheaper deal, and have the same protections as Victorians who live in a house and can choose their energy provider.”
