A man has been injured after a gas bottle explosion destroyed two cars and damaged buildings at Lendlease’s Parkland Villas retirement village (pictured) in Booragoon, Perth.
The blast, which took place at around 6:15am on Wednesday 1 February, shattered nearby windows, threw debris into the street and was heard kilometres away, prompting multiple 000 calls.
A spokesperson for the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) told The Weekly SOURCE that firefighters were on the scene by 6:22am, with the fire brought under control by 6:34am.
One Parkland Villas resident said on Perth’s 6PR radio that the explosion “woke the whole village up”.
“A big boom, I was just getting dressed and went outside and saw the black smoke, so I went for a little wander, and yeah, a car had certainly caught on fire and it just kept on exploding,” she said.
The man involved was taken to hospital with injuries including broken bones, burns, and lacerations.
