Federal Golf Club in Canberra lodges three DAs with one for Mbark’s $103M retirement village

It’s approaching nine years and a decision on Mbark’s village of 125 dwellings, with 77 single-storey houses and 48 apartments across six three-storey buildings, and a two-storey health and wellbeing centre for residents, is getting closer. Federal Golf Club in Red Hill submitted a development application (DA) for the retirement village on 6ha at the southern end of the Red Hill course. It is clearly an upmarket village planned with the three-bedroom houses 145sqm in size, with garages ranging from 28 - 43sqm. The apartments range in size from 161sqm to 177sqm. The health and wellbeing centre (pictured below) will include a lounge, events space, kitchen, toilets, games room, meeting room, cinema across both levels, consulting rooms, open plan office, and a swimming pool, yoga room, gym and hot tub on level 1. Parking and a cellar are provided in the basement.

Two other DAs were lodged: to subdivide the block and de-concessionalise the village site, and the other for reconfiguring the course, which will be done concurrently. It was back In October 2015, that Federal Golf Club’s board signed a 99-year peppercorn lease with Mbark to develop a retirement village with amenities to provide an on-going revenue stream. Mbark, founded by James Robinson, John Leo, and Adam Somerville, own and operate retirement villages Arbour, in Berry, NSW South Coast, and Wivenhoe Village, in Camden, in Sydney’s southwest.
