Government announces 100 new ‘Multi-Purpose Service’ beds

Aged Care Minister Anika Wells has announced the government will fund an additional 100 Multi-Purpose Services (MPS) in regional communities, taking the total number of flexible beds to 3,800.

MPSs are flexible aged care places, that usually attach to local hospitals in small regional towns.

Providers will be able to either extend their existing MPSs or establish new MPSs.

A statement from the Minister said, “MPSs are often the only aged care provider in a town and allow older people to stay living in and connected to their own communities, remaining close to families and loved ones.”

The Aged Care Minister said, “Multi-Purpose Services play a valuable part in our aged care system and mean rural residents don’t have to move away from their family and friends to access aged care.”
