Government looks to international students to fill aged care staff shortages

Aged Care Minister Senator Richard Colbeck (pictured, right) has announced aged care providers will temporarily be able to offer more hours to international students.

Under the changes, the current restrictions on international students working 40 hours a fortnight will be replaced to fill temporary staff shortages in both residential and home care, but will be available only for existing employees.

Providers can register with the Department of Home Affairs if they believe the changes will assist them.

You can find more information on their website or by calling the Global Service Centre on 131 881.
