Marina International Pty Ltd, the owners of the Clarion Hotel on Mackay’s Marina, have lodged a development application to convert the existing 249-room hotel; and two future developments to retirement living, the Daily Mercury reports. If approved, the waterfront site would be home to three buildings including a planned 12-storey, 120-unit Beacon development to be built where the hotel’s marquee stands; an eight-storey, 129-unit building including the hotel’s existing 79 units; plus a four-storey car park. Despite the site currently being zoned for tourism, the owners say the village would be a good change for the marina, which is just 6km from the city centre.
