In a desperate bid to attract staff, Not For Profit Mercy Community, which expects to have 120 aged care vacancies shortly, is offering experienced applications a $5,000 sign-on bonus, three flights home a year, as well as three months' free accommodation.

Not For Profit Mercy Community has 70 aged care vacancies in the city of Rockhampton, and a further 50 positions opening soon with the anticipated completion of its three-storey, 90-bed Mercy Haven aged care home in 2025.

There are jobs for registered nurses, allied health, hospitality, and personal care workers. To attract applicants to the Central Queensland city, situated on the coast about 600km north of Brisbane, population 80,000, the operator is offering a range of attractive benefits, including a $5,000 sign-on bonus and three return flights home a year. Mercy Community is offering three months' free accommodation and $5,000 in accommodation support to successful applicants.  Janet Rhodes, Mercy Community’s Executive General Manager for Residential Aged Care, said demand for aged care in the region is likely to increase by 50% over the next decade.
