Heavy hitter Prof Peter Shergold AC has been appointed to chair the new Aged Care Sector Committee. The Federal government press release states it understands the need to work in partnership with the aged care sector and aged care consumers.
Change in greater consumer focus is emphasised. An indication of governments intent is Prof Shergolds appointment as chairman. Today he is Chancellor of Western Sydney University. In 2003 John Howard appointed him as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Australias most senior public servant. He then led the Department for 5 years. He also produced the Shergold Report on Emission Trading that was adopted by all States.
The Professor sits on a number of boards including AMP Ltd and is Deputy Chair of the Sydney Writers' Festival.
