More flexible work, not extending unpaid leave, greater help to carers: Productivity Commission

The Productivity Commission has released a paper on the potential impacts of granting extended unpaid leave to carers – an issue canvassed by the Aged Care Royal Commission. The PC concluded that such an entitlement would benefit some carers and improve the quality of care provided to some older people, however it would impose costs on employers. The PC found – as in the Royal Commission – that extended unpaid leave was not the highest priority for the majority of carers, and other policies, such as more flexible work, would make a greater difference to carers.
