New government ‘Tap & Go’ payment concept supports disrupted home care

The Department of Health is moving forward with privatising the payment of $42 billion a year for Medicare, hospital claims and aged care services, including home care.

Health Minister Sussan Ley has said “Everyday Australians use cards to make Tap & Go payments and apps to make payments. This is why the Department of Health is investigating ways to digitise its transactions technology for payments to a more consumer friendly and faster format”.

Tap & Go will turbocharge the disruptive privatisation of home care where services like the Uber style Better Caring will seamlessly provide a back-office platform for sole trader carers to operate independently of large home care operators. This has the potential to decimate access to staff for home care operators.

Peter Scutt, CEO and Founder of Better Caring, will present his business case at the leaders LEADERSSUMMIT in Sydney 10 – 11 March. Check the program and registration HERE.

Robyn Batten to hand over Blue Care baton for the ‘new’ future
The Executive Director of the $700M turnover QLD care provider Blue care, Robyn Batten, has notified parent Uniting Care QLD that she will be moving on in June to join eHealth innovator Borderless Healthcare.

She will have held the position for six years. Previously she was Executive Director of Uniting Aged Care Victoria and Tasmania for four years. She is also Executive Director of Australian Regional and Remote Community Services and a National Board Director of Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA).

Blue Care is the largest business silo in the $1.3 billion turnover uniting care Queensland business and the one facing the most ‘disruption’ - from the transition of direct payment to blue care by government of up to $700 million for services transferred to the consumer and blue care having to compete for that income.

Regarded as one of the most progressive leaders in the not-for-profit sector, Batten’s re-engineering work for the disruptive future has been a cornerstone of UnitingCare QLD’s announcement last week that it is taking “taking bold and progressive steps to ensure its success in the disruptive aged care, health and disability sectors”.

As CEO Anne Cross stated, “The transfer of government funding from organisations to consumers has turned the non-profit sector on its head”.

Batten’s move to borderless health is also significant. It is an international platform for eHealth innovation pioneered by Dr Wei Siang Yu, a Singaporean neurosurgeon educated in Australia. His vision is to tap the best systems and structures for the delivery of health and make it available through the digital space with an emphasis on the Chinese market.
The Victorian government has committed multi million dollars in support funding to borderless health.

Equity investors include Thompson Adsett Managing Director Chris Straw and Chairman David Lane.

Chris Straw will introduce borderless health in his presentation at our leaders summit 10-11 march in

Sydney. Check HERE for more information.
