No new cases of coronavirus in South Australia as state plans to overhaul medi-hotel system

South Australia recorded no new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.   The Parafield cluster grew to 29, but this was only after two international travellers who tested positive while in hotel quarantine were added to the cluster.   The state’s overall total of active cases was 38.   This comes from over 9,400 tests conducted in the 24 hours prior.   Plans to overhaul medi-hotel system   This comes as South Australia’s Premier Steven Marshall (pictured above) confirmed plans to strengthen the state’s hotel quarantine measures.   As part of these measures, a “dedicated health facility” will be set aside for all returning travellers who test positive for COVID-19 while in medi-hotels.   The Premier confirmed staff at this facility would not be deployed to other medi-hotels or potentially high-risk environments like aged care facilities.  

Mr Marshall said the goal is to: “put as many shields here between the virus and with South Australia.” 

26th consecutive day with no new cases in Victoria   This comes as Victoria chalked up its 26th consecutive day with no new cases or deaths.   Encouragingly, over 16,400 tests were received in the 24 hours prior.
