Darwin (with Palmerston) has just five aged care providers – not enough to service the existing demand - resulting in patients being ‘prisoners’ at the Royal Darwin Hospital. One resident this week was reported to have ‘clocked up 489 days’ while on the care waiting list. There is no easing insight. Meanwhile the hospital is charging 86.5% of the patient’s pension as required by the Federal government.
