The newspaper is reporting that senior NSW detectives have been asked to investigate allegations of neglect by staff – including that a resident had lain on the floor for two hours after suffering a fall at 5am – at the Anglicare home in Western Sydney. The Australian says that Nepean Police have already been liaising with a number of relatives concerned about the treatment of their family members at the home. However, NSW Police Minister David Elliott ruled out a criminal investigation into the outbreak at the aged care home last week, labelling the cluster a “natural disaster.” “Police will assist (families) any way they can but there’s no suggestion there should be any kind of criminal investigation,” he said. The news comes after Anglicare appointed Catholic Healthcare’s General Manager for Residential Care, Andrew Kinkade, as an independent adviser following threats of regulatory action by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) over the outbreak.
