NT Government asks sector to build 60-bed aged care home in Darwin

The Federal Government has approved NT Health’s request for 60 bed licenses and opened expressions of interest for aged care providers to build, own, operate or partner in a new aged care home.

“The EOI is open to organisations from the aged care sector from across Australia, with providers of specialist dementia services encouraged to apply,” the NT Government said in a statement.

The EOI will be open for six weeks, closing on 24 April, and will be aimed at bridging the shortfall in aged care services in the NT. NT Chief Minister Natasha Fyles (pictured) said the new facility would ease pressure on hospitals.

“(Of the 60 beds) 12 of these will be specialist dementia care – something we don’t have in the Northern Territory and that is important,” she said.

The 2021-22 Federal Budget included $396.9 million over five years for capital investment to enable aged care providers to improve their buildings and develop new services.
