Only 23 aged care homes with confirmed COVID-19 cases: Aged Care Minister says sector “should be congratulated” for its work during COVID-19 pandemic

Only 0.8% of Australia’s aged care homes have or have had COVID-19 cases and of those, 15 aged care homes are now completely clear of the virus while only eight have active cases, the Aged Care Minister, Senator Richard Colbeck, has revealed following Friday’s National Cabinet meeting.

“I think that’s a great result,” he said.

The Minister also pointed out that some of these homes had only one, two or three cases – and that only on a “couple of occasions”, has there been more.

In particular, Minister Colbeck singled out BaptistCare for its “great work”, noting that its Dorothy Henderson Lodge aged care home – which had 13 residents and five staff infected and lost six of its residents – is now “completely free” of COVID-19.
