The change.org petition is targeting 150,000 signatures and was started by Victorian woman Jane Seaholme, whose mother had dementia and was in a Victorian aged care home. “We require the government to mandate staff/resident ratios for all aged care facilities across Australia, to protect our elders, to keep them safe from neglect and to be cared for with dignity and respect in the manner they deserve,” she said. “I’m not sure how any government could possibly ignore this??” she adds. But will the signatories agree to pay for the extra staff when taxpayers cannot?
