Quality executive talent now entering the (for purpose) retirement village sector

I was looking at the 56 covers of our SATURDAY digital magazine last week as we prepared to launch our new The SOURCE portal, and I was struck by the relative youth, confidence and energy the exec’s on each cover projected.

The past five years have seen a substantial recruitment of talent from outside the sector, across retirement living and aged care.

Both sectors are coming out of very difficult times, with Covid, workforce and government regulations, but the future is exceedingly exciting for any group that wishes to grow – fast.

In retirement living, demand far exceeds supply. This means two things.

First, established operators will look to acquire villages from those ‘old’ operators with 20+ year old villages who simply want to retire or not engage in another 10 year rebuild project.

Second, new business models are emerging to take up that excess demand. Think Build To Rent who are already delivering 11-15% of their stock from retirees, and Community Apartment Projects (CAPs) that offer strata title with a professional ageing concierge service and charging a 20% premium.
