So that’s three providers all re-developing to cater for our ageing baby boomers. Redeveloping can have its problems however – last week, the Herald Sun reported here that residents are looking to block Aveo’s planned redevelopment of its 60-unit Mingarra retirement village in Croydon, Melbourne. 73-year-old Alyce McCarroll says she is happy with her existing unit and will lodge an objection. But with many villages and facilities 30-plus years old, can operators afford for a few residents to hold up re-developing? Last year, A Current Affair ran a major piece on an operator being ‘unfair’, given the objections of a few residents that stalled a significant apartment development that would have improved amenities for all residents.
