The Australian is reporting that the nurse at the centre of the lockdown of the state-run North Rockhampton Nursing Centre is the suspected source of the infection that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man from COVID-19 on Tuesday night in Blackwater, 800km from Brisbane. As we covered here, the nurse had alleged she could have contracted the virus at the aged care home because of its poor infection controls. Queensland Health says the unidentified nurse travelled the 167km from Rockhampton to Blackwater before she was diagnosed with the virus. The nurse has been interviewed by the authorities. Meanwhile, a team of public health experts and additional contact tracing resources has been dispatched from Brisbane to Blackwater to track the possible source of the virus. The man had only been diagnosed with the virus after his death and there had been no reported cases of COVID-19 in Blackwater. He had also not left the town since February or travelled overseas. His death marks the seventh Queensland’s seventh coronavirus-related death and Australia’s 103rd.
