The seniors housing development in Newcastle West will be owned and operated by RSL Lifecare and include a 60-bed aged care home, 74 retirement living units, 94 parking spaces and a café.
Its a key part of a masterplan that Newcastle-based construction company Core Project Group has developed with Newcastle Council to help rejuvenate the city centre.
Its also not the only vertical village making news, with an aged care home planned for a high-rise development in Melbournes Footscray.
Banco Group wants to build two 13-and 18-storey towers with 235 apartments and a two-level 121-bed aged care home at the vacant Albert Street site, which is just 5km from the CBD.
The development will also boast 13 medical suites plus a supermarket, shops, restaurants and cinemas.
Its yet another sign developers are thinking up when it comes to housing our ageing population.
