Sector warning after unopposed re-election as ARQRV President for 10th year

Judy Mayfield says the role of President of Association of Residents of Queensland Retirement Villages is demanding and concerning, after being re-elected unopposed to the role. “The concern is with the advancing age of residents entering villages will anyone want the responsibility when I decide I have had enough?” “We are going to have to look at how we run, and how the other village residents’ associations operate,” Judy said. She warned that the role required people who have run businesses before. “They won’t be able to run the ARQRV without that career background,” she added. Many QLD operators also rely on the council and support of the ARQRV when dealing with both village problems and government liaison. The same reliance occurs in other states. It is in the interest of all parties – Residents, Government and Operators to have a strong state resident association and leadership. Does this mean that all parties should be supporting the state bodies financially or in manpower to make the role of President more appealing? The SOURCE: Judy Mayfield is highly respected in the sector and will stay on until she wants to stop.
