Snowy Monaro Regional Council wants the new owner and operator of its two residential aged care homes, which run at a $2.1 million deficit, to commit to building a new facility. Snowy Monaro Regional Council CEO Peter Bascomb said the call for expressions of interest for the 40-bed Yallambee Lodge in Cooma and 14-bed Snowy River Hostel in Berriedale opened at the end of last week and closes on 25 June, was the first step.
“Criteria include a demonstrated track record in delivering quality care, a commitment to retaining existing staff, alignment with council and community values and a capacity to invest in additional care facilities in the region, by developing a new facility to service Jindabyne,” said Mr Bascomb in a media release. He added that any residents of the aged care facilities “cannot be asked to pay a new or higher residential accommodation deposit.”
You have to ask the question: what operator will want to take up the offer, knowing they cannot increase fees to help pay for the expansion?
