St Dominic’s Home for the Elderly in Sydney’s west will shut down in January, leaving 50 residents in need of new accommodation. The Blacktown home, established by the Dominican Sisters of Malta in 1988, has been unable to find a provider to take over the facility despite a three-year search, according to a letter by administrator Sister Georgina Sultana to residents seen by the Blacktown Advocate.
“As you may be able to appreciate, this decision has not been taken lightly and we have exhausted every possible solution to try and have an accredited provider of like mindedness, continue the delivery of care and spiritual mission to the residents and families of our communities,” she said.
The home has fielded calls from other residential care facilities able to take in St Dominic’s residents, and Sr Georgina said all 50 should find new accommodation before the January 15 closure. The land on which St Dominic’s sits is valued at more than $50 million.
