Stephen Cornelissen resigns from Mercy Health

Mercy Health’s Group CEO Stephen Cornelissen is leaving the organisation after almost 11 years in the top job. Adj Prof. Cornelissen will step down at the end of May to take up a role at Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, and said he was proud of the time he had spent at Mercy.

“It has been a privilege to be part of this wonderful organisation and to have worked with so many dedicated and committed people, who irrespective of their faith and beliefs, share a common bond to care for others. “I will leave Mercy Health proud of all the collective achievements I have been part of and heartened that these have grown from the same boldness and courage of the many wonderful Sisters of Mercy who came before us, always seeking to find new and better ways to compassionately care,” he said.

He thanked his colleagues, the church, and various government and philanthropic agencies that had supported him in the role.

“I am also very grateful to the Mercy Health Board and in particular, the two inspiring Chairs I have been privileged to work with – Julien O’Connell AO and Virginia Bourke. “The relationship between a Chair and Group CEO is critical to the success of an organisation and I have been fortunate to work with two of the most outstanding, committed and supportive Chairs any Group CEO could wish for,” he said.

Adj Prof. Cornelissen was named CEO of the Year in 2016.
