As we reported here, the operator had lodged plans for four five-storey buildings plus a resident clubhouse and health and wellbeing services next to its Pines Shopping Centre in Doncaster East last year. But the local Council has turned down the proposal over a poorly designed carpark and a lack of building setbacks. One Councillor – and father – said while he felt the area needed retirement living developments, the carpark was probably “designed by a man who’s never pushed a trolley full of shopping with kids in tow”. Stockland is one of the country’s most experienced shopping centre developers but no doubt appreciates the councillor’s advice.
