Uniting War Memorial Hospital, now a specialist aged rehabilitation facility, marks its centenary

Uniting NSW.ACT Chief Executive Tracey Burton today honoured the Vickery family’s significant legacy and the contribution of staff and volunteers for over 100 years as the hospital which is now a specialist aged rehabilitation service in Waverley in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The hospital became part of NSW Health in 1969 and its services today include 24-hour inpatient care, outpatient departments, specialist teams including Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Younger Onset Dementia, and a 24-hour accommodation service for regional visitors. Michael said by giving the Edina Estate to the Methodist Church on 25 April 1919, the Vickery family ensured that one of the finest Victorian mansions in Sydney was preserved as Waverley expanded.

“Descendants of the family are proud of this legacy and its benefits for future generations of people living in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs,” he added.
