The Western Australian Government is seeking final feedback on its new Seniors Strategy ahead of its release in early 2023. The strategy – designed to support the state’s estimated 428,000 seniors over the next 10 years – has been developed based on surveys, focus groups, and phone interviews with more than 2,300 people, as well as written submissions from peak bodies, community organisations, and local governments. According to Don Punch, Minister for Seniors and Ageing (pictured), the strategy is built on four “pillars”: thriving physically and mentally; safe and friendly communities; staying connected and engaged; and having a voice that is heard.
“While the strategy will set a direction and co-ordinate action, creating an age-friendly Western Australia is everyone’s responsibility. “Our population is ageing, and it is more important than ever to ensure our community recognises and values our seniors for the contribution they have made – and continue to make – to our society,” he said.
