“We need to be courageous enough to pause aged care reforms”

Aged care homes may close if there is not a pause in the reform process, warns Tracey Burton, Executive Director of Uniting NSW.ACT. The government needs to ensure there is enough funding to cover the costs of implementation in order to achieve the best outcomes, Tracey says.

“We need to be courageous enough to pause and evaluate and reset to ensure we get it right and achieve the best possible outcomes for seniors,” Tracey told SATURDAY, our premium digital magazine. “Through the reform process, it’s important that the policy isn’t rushed out just to get something done. “The risk of doing it too quicky, and without carefully financing the implementation process and other additional costs, is that we could see more services go under. “The transition needs to be well considered and properly funded.”

As leader of one of the nation’s largest aged care providers, Tracey is a voice to be listened to. We have chosen her to be on the cover of the last edition of SATURDAY for the year. Read the full story in this week’s issue of SATURDAY – subscribe here.
