The Sydney-based Not For Profit has announced it will acquire the family-owned, standalone Mareeba Aged Care Home in the NSW Northern Rivers' town of Maclean, 659km northeast of Sydney. The home has been in operation for more than 40 years, owned and operated by the Gordon and Baker families.

Whiddon already operates Maclean Retirement Village and Maclean Residential Care in the town, both of which will remain in operation. The acquisition is expected to be completed in October 2025, when the home will be renamed Whiddon Mareeba Maclean. No staffing changes are expected.

In a statement, Mareeba Aged Care Directors Steve Gordon and Sam Baker said, “We are confident that Whiddon is the right provider to take Mareeba into the future and continue the legacies the Baker and Gordon families have helped grow over the last 40 years."

When the acquisition is complete, the operator will have 23 aged care homes, 12 retirement villages and a home care business operating across NSW and Southeast Queensland. The sale was brokered through Shane Nicholson, Director of ACSL Property. The sale is the third aged care acquisition announced in only a week. Last week, Regis Aged Care also acquired four aged care homes from Rockpool, and this week Quirindi Care Services voted to join the Apollo Care Alliance.
