The $12M tender for the centre was won by niche VIC-based aged care provider Wintringham, which was established in 1989 to provide aged care housing for the homeless. Wintringham chief executive Bryan Lipmann (pictured) told the ABC that: “Wintringham is a not-for-profit welfare organisation and all we do is provide housing and care for people on low incomes,” he said. It’s estimated that 21% of Tasmanian’s over-65 population are in some form of housing stress, with 206 seeking help for homelessness in 2013-14.
