A significant milestone for Victoria’s aged care sector.
Data from the Victorian Aged Care Response Centre has confirmed there are now zero active cases linked aged care, down from 66 reported at the same point in October.
There have been no new cases in an aged care resident since 26 September 2020 with the few remaining cases in recent weeks linked to staff and close contacts.
Overall, Victoria posted another ‘doughnut day’ on Thursday, as the state chalked up its sixth consecutive day with no new coronavirus infections.
This brought the total number of active cases in the state down to 20, a 93% decrease on the 326 active cases reported at the same point in October.
The results were reflected in the state’s 14-day averages, which dropped to 1.4 in metropolitan Melbourne (down from Wednesday’s total of 1.7) and remained steady at 0 in regional Victoria.
Around 13,400 tests were recorded in Victoria in the 24 hours prior.
And there were two Victorians in hospital, with none in intensive care.
Further easing of restrictions due for Sunday
In his daily press briefing, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews all but confirmed a further easing of restrictions for the weekend, but he declined to signal whether there would be additions to what the State Government has already announced.
“It’s possible that we could have some changes at the appropriate time and that will come after detailed health advice,” he said.
“But I’ve been very clear with you for weeks and months now that I’d be a holdout on this because I think that it is serving a purpose.”
